Control Bridge prototype · CB Feedback

Verify the controller’s LED messages first, then choose the actual Live state to follow.

This quickstart is based on the current development documentation. It is not a release announcement or a replacement for rehearsing and verifying your own setup.

Install and route

Obtain the current Control Bridge build from CLR. Keep CB Transport Feedback.amxd beside cb_feedback.js and add the folder to Live’s browser or your Ableton User Library. The device title is CB Feedback; the longer filename is retained for compatibility. Public release, licence and pricing details are not announced.

Put the device on a MIDI track, route the track’s MIDI To to your intended controller output and set Monitor to In. MIDI output selection is handled by Live, not by a separate device port selector. Avoid sending to an unrelated device or creating a MIDI feedback loop.

1. Match the controller protocol

  1. Consult the controller’s LED/MIDI documentation.
  2. Choose CC or Note, the MIDI channel, controller/note number, and the required OFF and ON values.
  3. Press Test Off and Test On to check the hardware light before mapping a source.

If the light does not respond correctly, check the output port, channel, message type and controller configuration. Do not assume every controller uses values 0 and 127 or the same RGB format.

2. Map the feedback source

  1. Press Arm Mapping.
  2. Click the Live or exposed plug-in parameter to observe, including on another track.
  3. Verify the displayed source and Mapped state.
  4. Use Clear to release it before selecting another source.

Third-party parameters must be exposed to Live. State changes made by the mouse, automation or other controllers are observed; the LED is not merely a memory of the last incoming press.

3. Or select a transport state

Direct Transport offers Playing, Arrangement Record, Session Record and Loop. Choose None to return to parameter mapping. A captured parameter and Direct Transport are mutually exclusive; clear one before selecting the other.

Playing follows actual transport state, including changes initiated by another controller or AbleSet. Refresh resends the current state.

Binary state and RGB limits

On/off sources use the configured ON/OFF values. A continuous mapped parameter is ON above the midpoint of its range and OFF at or below it. This is binary button LED feedback, not continuous encoder-ring feedback.

RGB controls may require a controller-specific protocol or additional messages. Universal RGB colour control is not implemented or claimed in this prototype.

Verify after saving

Saved-source restoration still needs Live-session validation. After reopening the Set, confirm the source, output route and LED response; remap if the saved source is unavailable. Do not assume restoration has succeeded because the device is present. Interface images are static previews derived from native presentation controls, not captured Live tests.
