Section 05
MIDI Monitor
Use the monitor to inspect live MIDI without changing the MIDI shutdown trigger or its Learn mapping.
Start monitoring
- Select one or more inputs. New inputs are selected automatically until you explicitly turn them off.
- Optionally enable Receive from software. While monitoring is on, choose Show Central — Receive as an output in the sending application.
- Switch Monitoring on. It always starts off when Show Central opens.
Read and filter messages
The latest event stays above the history. Choose note and controller names or decimal values, choose C3 or C4 middle-C naming, enable category filters, or search the visible event text. Select a history row to inspect its port, MIDI group, channel and raw UMP words.
Clear and export
Clear removes the current capture and counters. Export saves the captured events as JSON. The footer reports captured, visible, dropped and aged-out event counts.
Outputs
Show Central prepares its bundled, read-only output observer automatically before CoreMIDI starts. There is no separate download or installation step. It validates the complete plugin, never replaces an unknown item, never restarts CoreMIDI and never changes MIDI routing. If CoreMIDI was already running when the observer was first prepared, the output status asks you to restart the Mac once.
The status below the output list states whether outputs are ready, active, unavailable or in use by another monitor.
Independent controls: MIDI Monitor does not arm shutdown, enable the shutdown MIDI trigger, or change the learned shutdown message.
