Technical pre-production

Preserve your sound. Shape the performance. Build and rehearse the system that brings it to the stage.

Start with the performance

The detail that makes a record yours should carry through to the live show. So should the freedom to play, change an arrangement and connect with an audience. Pre-production is where we work out how both can happen.

Working with you and your musical team, we turn the music into a practical performance: who plays each part, what the system handles, how everything is controlled and what the crew needs to run it. Those decisions guide the session programming, the rig and the rehearsals.

From the music to the tour

Build the show, step by step

Musical decisions and technical design develop together. Rehearsal feeds back into both.

  1. Define the live show

We begin with the music, the line-up and the way you want to perform. Which parts will be played live? Where do you want to improvise, extend a section or move straight into the next song? Together, we establish what the performance needs to make possible.

The foundation A shared plan for the arrangements, the performers and the role of the system.

  2. Bring the sounds to the stage

We work through the recordings and source sessions to identify the sounds and details that matter. Stems, samples, synth patches and live processing are prepared around the musicians’ parts, keeping the character of the music while adapting it to the live arrangement.

The sound A clear place for every musical element, whether played, triggered or carried by playback.

  3. Program the performance

We give the show a usable session structure: songs, sections, tempos, transitions and cues. Clicks and guide tracks support the performers where needed. Instrument changes, effects and MIDI commands are programmed around the music, with controls that let you navigate the show on stage.

The session Organised musical material and control behaviour that the performers can rehearse.

  4. Connect the whole system

The session, computers, interfaces and controllers are designed as one machine. We map audio to front of house and monitors, plan MIDI and network connections, and integrate synchronisation for lighting or video where required. Backup paths and recovery are considered alongside everyday operation.

The rig Defined signal paths, connections and controls, with a plan for what happens if something stops.

  5. Rehearse, test and refine

We run the music on the system intended for the show. Rehearsal exposes what a studio session alone cannot: awkward controls, missed cues, difficult transitions and changes the band needs. We also check latency, computer load, routing and recovery behaviour, then refine the session and setup together.

The rehearsal A show tested as a complete performance, with remaining issues identified and worked through.

  6. Make it practical to tour

The people taking the show on the road need to understand it. We prepare the handover around the touring team: session organisation and backups, routing and connection information, setup checks and recovery procedures. The crew can follow a signal or command through the system when troubleshooting.

The handover A prepared show and the knowledge to set it up, operate it and look after it on the road.

Your next show

Bring us the music and the ambition

Tell us what you want to play, who will be on stage and what needs to change from your current setup. Recordings, existing sessions and a rehearsal or tour schedule give us a useful starting point.

We’ll work out the scope with you, from developing an existing live setup to preparing a new show from the recordings.
